Monday, July 7, 2008 marked the 10th anniversary of the death of Chief Moshood Kasimawo Olawale Abiola, winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election. But unlike June 12 which has been declared a public holiday only by Lagos State government as Democracy Day, July 7, the day the politician died in detention, is rarely celebrated. This year however, Abiola's associates are organising a memorial to mark his 10th anniversary.
